Ecuador continues to perform well, despite starting qualifying with a three-point penalty for fielding an ineligible player.

After picking up two points last month in scoreless draws against Uruguay and Paraguay, La Tricolor sit in fifth place in the qualifying standings.

For Ecuador, three points will be a must in this match against a Bolivia side that struggles mightily outside the high altitude of its home games.

Ecuador has shown consistent form following their impressive Copa America campaign, where “La Tri” nearly eliminated Argentina in the quarterfinals. Under Sebastián Beccacece, they kicked off their South American qualifiers with a narrow away loss to Brazil, followed by a 1-0 home victory over Peru. The following matches ended in scoreless draws against Paraguay and Uruguay.

Currently, “La Tri” sits fifth in the qualifying standings, boasting four wins, four draws, and only two losses, with a goal difference of 6:4. Alongside Paraguay, Ecuador has the fewest goals conceded in this round. To solidify their position in the upper part of the table, Ecuador will need a decisive home win against Bolivia, remaining unbeaten at home with three wins and two draws, with a goal difference of 4:1.

Brazil will travel to Venezuela for the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualifying game on Thursday.

The Selecao is fourth in the South American group with 16 points. Venezuela, on the other hand, is struggling in the bottom three with two wins from 10 matches.

After losing four of the first eight matches, Brazil got their campaign on track with back-to-back wins over Chile and Peru in October. The five-time world champions will look to continue the run of form.
