Just like Golden Flash fans are not happy with Kenni Burns, Aztec fans are not happy with Sean Lewis.
The former Kent State head coach finished the season 3-9 at San Diego State University with one of his wins coming from East Texas A&M University.
After the Aztecs' 31-20 loss to Air Force, the following comments were made on the San Diego State Football Facebook page:
"Lewis is not the guy.
I wish we could afford to fire him."
"Now you see that Colorado made the right move getting rid of this guy as a coach. He's not good at all."
"There was a reason why he was fired, his calls are just amateur. We need a football guy at the helm. One that makes adjustments, uses more than 4 guys."
"This program stinks now. Bring back Rocky!"
"The talent was there but not utilized. I didn't see one offensive play design for a double TE set. They have 2 great transfers ready to go but rarely used. The double TE set is used in every Professional and major college program. We didn't see it ONCE ...too predictable and low level play book. Good Luck next year. We hope someone on staff sees the light."
"Down 3 and going for it on 4th down in the red zone with a fake reverse ? That play had NO chance."
"Aztec football needs to remember how the basketball team became a power. They hired a NAME coach named Steve Fisher. Stop hiring other teams rejects because you're now in the Pac 12 (or whatever it's going to be called)"
"Thank god for the men’s basketball team."
"I think there were 17 people in the stands. Maybe 18. Jeesh!"
"We did an injustice to our new stadium."
"Pathetic that's all I got to say pathetic."
"Coach clown, why go for 2, down by 11?
Moron"
"Why run a fake reverse inside the 10-yard line on 4th & 1? That’s not the time to get fancy, that’s the time to execute. Changed the ballgame."
"Wicker- Hire a real OC and don’t let this guy call anymore offense."
Following the loss to Air Force, perhaps San Diego State fans are expressing their disappointment in an excessively dramatic way and going beyond a reasonable reaction to a single game.
But it's no secret that many Aztec fans are not happy with Lewis' 3-9 record.
On Nov 8, 2024, a Colorado fan posted the following comment on AllBuffs.com:
"If San Diego State manages to lose at home to New Mexico their program is officially dead.
Aztecs lost 8 of their last 10 last year before hiring Sean Lewis off Prime's CU staff. So far doesn't look like they have gotten much better.
Lewis will get some time. The program is hurting for money, and Lewis signed a 5-year deal starting at about $1.7 million per year. SDSU can't afford to dump him this early although the Fire Sean Lewis Facebook and web pages are already up."
San Diego State lost the home game to New Mexico, 21-16.
Like with San Diego State, fan frustration has reached new heights on social media, with many Flash fans calling for immediate action against Kenni Burns.
Kent State Fanatics has had a "Fire Kenni Burns" thread up for some time.
Burns signed a five-year, $2.7 million contract in 2022 and received an extension earlier this year to remain with the program through 2028. However, on the field, the Golden Flashes have struggled, failing to secure a single win in 2024 after finishing 2023 with a 1-11 record.
So, it will be interesting to see who gets fired first. But something tells me San Diego State will not be as patient with Lewis as Kent State will be with Burns.
