Kent State vs. Fairfield updates

Rod misses the first of a one-and-one, then Needham races down the floor and hits a layup.

70-68 Kent, 18.3 seconds left.

Guyton nails two FTs to extend the lead to four and FU can't convert on the other side. That's the game, 72-68.

KSU advances to play No. 1 seed Colorado in the quarterfinals.

Nice win by the fellas, also nice to see Holt step up. When he gets going he heats up good and quick. Nice to have multiple weapons in the event somebody is cold or just defended that well.

Now it's on to Boulder to take on a team that was 'only' 23-13, but much better than that. Among their losses were 3 to Kansas who were ranked #6, #1 and 32 at the times of their games, as well as losses to #15 Mizzou, #22 Texas A&M, an OT loss to San Fran and losses to Baylor, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New Mexico, Harvard and Georgia. Colorado's leading scorer is Alex Burks at 6'6" and 195 lbs. and averages over 20 points a game, not to mention his 6.4 boards a game. Their 2nd leaging scorer is Corey Higgins at 6'5" and gets over 16 a game, so our defense has their work cut out for them. Their leading rebounder is a 6'5" guard and 2nd leading rebounder is Burks. Their best shooter is 6'4" guard Levi Knutson who made more 3s than 2s this season and makes them at a 49% clip while he also hits over 90% from the foul line. Their 2 biggest men, only average 4 minutes a game and barely played half the games, so it looks like they normally go with 3 guards and 2 forwards. That said, their guards are big, in the 6'3" to 6'7" range which will pose some match-ups problems for us. They also shoot better than us from all around, 3 point land and the free throw line, so we'll need maximum effort on Tuesday to have a chance.
