As a WVU graduate it was an interesting coaching search as two of the coaches who were rumored to be in contention (Jeff Mullen and Curt Cignetti) and the eventual hire all have WVU connections. Darrell Hazell coached WVU's all-time leading rusher, Avon Couborne.
