Indications are the University of Massachusetts will announce its intention to move from the Championship Subdivision to the Bowl Subdivision, joining Temple as a football-only member of the Mid-American Conference, perhaps as early as next month.

UMass would need to go through a two-year transition period before it could be officially admitted to the MAC for the 2013 season.

Thoughts?

UMass expected to join MAC

Can anyone blame UMass or Temple for not wanting to join the MAC as a full member? Take a look at the Men's Basketball Conference RPIs (2010-2011) rankings and you will see why MAC basketball would devalue UMass and Temple athletics. Initially, I wanted to see Temple become a full member of the MAC but it is plain to see that such a move would hurt the prestige of Temple basketball. Thoughts?

The unbalanced divisions have been a headache and Temple didn't really bring anything of substance to the MAC as expected, so I wish they'd cut them lose at the end of the contract and let them join a conference as a full-time member.

Polish,

I have seen you on the boards slamming Temple for what seems like ages now.

Aside from the unbalanced schedule (which the addition of UMass would fix), what's the beef with Temple?

In the end, what do you expect a program to bring to the MAC? Isn't there a value to MAC exposure in the Philadelphia region - at least making Eastern PA/NJ recruits more aware of other MAC schools?

Moreover, what does Temple take from the MAC that is a problem for the other schools?

To all the others on here - sorry if I am opening a can of worms.
