WEEK 3 LIVESTREAM: Memphis vs. Florida State is finally here.

It's the game that's been marked on every Tigers fan's calendar since it was announced in 2021. A chance for a signature win against a power opponent on the road. An opportunity to boost what Memphis hopes is a College Football Playoff-caliber resume.

And the biggest storyline this week: Mike Norvell against Ryan Silverfield.

Florida State's coach will face his former team for the first time since he left in 2019. Silverfield, who had been a Norvell assistant, was elevated to head coach to replace him at Memphis. And now, five years later, they'll meet on the same field as opponents for the first time.

There should be ample scoring opportunities for both teams on Saturday and both squads have an extra motivational factor to consider. FSU is looking for its first win over 2024, while Memphis looks to establish itself among the top Group of 5 contenders. The Seminoles just had an off week and therefore have extra time to prepare an improved offensive gameplan for this one, and the Tigers’ defense remains suspect being yet to face a quality opponent. With all things considered, I believe this total is set incredibly low. I’m taking the over.

Linebacker Elijah Herring had a strong game for the defense, recording eight tackles in all including two for loss. He added a sack, forced fumble and a fumble recovery to his stellar day. Linebacker Chandler Martin added seven tackles and a pass breakup. Overall, the Memphis defense had eight tackles for loss, the second straight week with that many tackles for loss.

Memphis arrives in Tallahassee ready to prove that they belong in the conversation with Power Conference schools. They come into this game ranked 57th in the nation in total offense. The Tigers ground game has been particularly effective, ranking 24th in the country in rushing offense. They have also been perfect in the red zone heading into this game. On the defensive end, the Tigers are 19th in the country in total defense. They have been equally adept against the pass and rush, ranking 35th against the run and 34th against the pass. The Tigers have been a bit sloppy thus far, ranked 79th in penalties per game.
