The Atlanta Falcons haven’t had a lot to celebrate for the past few years, but the 2024-2025 season is showing some promise. The team is in second place in the NFC South, right behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—and tonight the Dirty Birds have an opportunity to tie for first. The NFL kicks off Week 5 with a big game in the NFC South, as "Thursday Night Football" sees the division-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading north to face the Atlanta Falcons.
The Buccaneers are aiming to continue a good start that has resulted in a 3-1 record. Tampa Bay has one of the NFL's best passing attacks at the moment, with Baker Mayfield throwing for 347 yards in last week's dominant 33-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. That wiped away any bad feelings after a Week 3 stumble against the Denver Broncos, and the Bucs will hope to seize control of the division with a win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As for the Falcons, every week has found Raheem Morris' team in a nail-biter. Atlanta (2-2) has been in four straight one-score games to start the year. Last week, the Falcons — whose touchdowns came on special teams and defense — fell behind with just a minute to go only to capitalize on a huge pass interference penalty. With two seconds to go, Younghoe Koo came up with a career-best 58-yard field goal to pick up a 26-24 divisional win over the New Orleans Saints.
