I'm here at the Wolstein Center and will be posting updates throughout Kent State's season opener.

Suppose this is as good a time as any to introduce myself, as I'll be working with (for is probably a better word) Steve Hare to cover the Flashes.

Tip-off is a little over half an hour away from KSU's 2010-11 men's basketball season getting under way.

Kent is pushing the ball up the floor quickly and have taken a 10-5 lead after two fast-break baskets from Justin Greene.

Greene is having his way inside--10 points midway through the first half. Guyton has added seven points. 26-19 KSU.

First half score: KSU 35, Iona 32.

Greene has been a force on both sides of the ball, pouring in 15 and blocking four shots. He's really imposing his will whenever he likes.

Guyton looks very, very good in his first half for KSU with nine points, scoring from inside and out.

KSU a little lackadaisical pushing the ball up the court--three turnovers in all before passing mid-court.

Guyton was beat the ball which turned into a 3-pointer from Kyle Smyth.

Kent up 46-43.

Listening on the radio, I just want to say Ty Linder is calling a nice game.

Following two turnovers Iona just took the first lead since the first couple of minutes 52-50.

And as I'm typing Sherman nails a three from the corner to retake the lead 53-52.

A game Kent has been leading throughout just turned into a dog fight.

After finally losing the lead, Sherman hit a 3 and was followed by a bucket from Greene. On the opposite end, Greene blocks a shot and Manns, running the floor nicely, slams it home.

A couple of FT's has Iona up one with 7:30 left.

Guyton is short on a couple of three attempts. KSU is really struggling to find space. Iona is shooting poorly from the stripe.

65-61 3:48 left

2:13 left, Guyton misses 2 FT while down 70-64.

Sherman hits a couple of FTs, an and-one basket and then finds Greene for a dunk,

70-69 1:30 left.

Down by three with a minute to go, Carlton Guyton hit a three from the corner.

Justin Greene came away with the ball after a rejection on the other end and Ford called timeout with 20.1 seconds to go.

Everyone in the gym knew where the ball was going, but it wasn't enough. Sherman drove the lane, found Greene who was fouled with 1.9 seconds left.

Greene hit the first and missed the second for the win.

Incredible first night.

Incredible night was an understatement. Real pleased with the new team somehow pulling one out against a much more experience team.
