Colombia hosts Peru in a World Cup qualifier on Friday as it looks for a vital three points.

Los Cafeteros sit in the sixth and final automatic qualifying spot as they aim to reach the World Cup after missing out in 2022.

Néstor Lorenzo's side enters this game on a run of three losses in four qualifiers, making this home match against struggling Peru a major opportunity to turn things around.

After a remarkable 28-match unbeaten streak came to an end following a narrow extra-time loss to Argentina in the Copa America 2024 final, Colombia have gone through patchy form, resulting in a four-match winless run.
Los Cafeteros recently threw away a two-goal lead against Paraguay in March, settling for a 2-2 draw. However, with key players like James Rodriguez and ‘El Cucho’ Hernandez returning, Nestor Lorenzo’s side will look to return to winning ways.

Meanwhile, Peru are in ninth place with just two wins in 14 matches, and without a single away goal or victory in the CONMEBOL qualifiers. Their dreadful away form has not improved under new manager Oscar Ibanez, who joined in January.

Despite relying on an ageing squad, led by 35-year-old Gianluca Lapadula and 41-year-old Paolo Guerrero, Peru absolutely need a win in Friday’s fixture to have any hopes of securing their second World Cup appearance since 2018.
