What to Expect from This Massive PFL Clash

Former UFC champion Francis Ngannou returns to the octagon on October 19 after stepping into the boxing ring for two high-profile fights. The 37-year-old fighter will face Brazilian powerhouse Renan Ferreira at the Mayadeen, with the newly established PFL heavyweight Superfight Championship belt on the line. This matchup has been dubbed the "Battle of the Giants," fitting for such formidable competitors.

Ngannou, known as "The Predator," is making his debut in the PFL after signing with the organization in May 2023. This move marks a significant milestone for the Professional Fighters League, which was founded in 2018 by Donn Davis, especially with the launch of its Super Fights division. The last time Ngannou graced the cage was at UFC 270 in January 2022, where he defended his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane, winning by unanimous decision. Following a controversial contract dispute, Ngannou departed the UFC, leading to Dana White stripping him of the championship in January 2023.

Instead of fading from the spotlight, Ngannou's profile skyrocketed after his boxing bouts in Riyadh against Tyson Fury in October 2023 and Anthony Joshua in May 2024. Although he suffered a second-round knockout against Joshua, Ngannou pushed Fury to the limit, narrowly missing the chance to claim victory.
