DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. (CBS) – A Chester County boxing coach is preparing for what could be the most significant fight of his career.
Bob Kofroth, owner and head coach at Elite Edge Boxing in Downingtown and Malvern, is stepping into the ring this weekend to face seven-time world champion Sugar Shane Mosley.
"It feels like my own Rocky story," Kofroth shared. "I came from nothing, and not many people know who I am. This is a huge opportunity for me."
It’s his moment to prove what he's capable of.
At 53, Mosley is coming out of retirement for a special celebrity boxing event at Harrah's Casino in Chester, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
When asked about his game plan to defeat Mosley, Kofroth replied, "I grew up watching him, so I know a bit about his style. As for the rest, I’ll keep it to myself—you’ll see everything play out on Saturday."
Damon Feldman, CEO of Official Celebrity Boxing, said Kofroth was a last-minute replacement for an injured fighter. "It's a great opportunity for him," Feldman noted. "He's getting a lot of exposure, which will benefit his business. Plus, he’s a good guy with a wonderful family."
Chester Mayor Stefan Roots emphasized the significance of the event, which is expected to draw around 1,000 attendees. "This is a big deal for our city, especially as we work to exit receivership after filing for bankruptcy two years ago. We're ready for major events, and arts and entertainment will play a key role in revitalizing Chester. All roads lead here."
As for Kofroth, his confidence remains unshaken.
"I love boxing," Kofroth said. "For real fighters, getting the chance to go toe-to-toe with someone who’s been one of the best—that’s worth its weight in gold for me."
