Pereira is the hottest fighter on Dana White's books, with Poatan taking the light heavyweight title last November to become the first man in UFC history to have been world champion in that and middleweight classes. With two consecutive defences in Vegas at UFC 300 and 303, the Brazilian doesn't look ready to have it ripped from his grasp quite yet.
UFC 307 is shaping up to be an epic night of fights! Headlining the card is an exciting light heavyweight championship bout between reigning champion Alex Pereira and challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. Adding to the action, Raquel Pennington will defend her women’s bantamweight title against Julianna Pena, while the legendary Jose Aldo takes on Mario Bautista.
UFC 307’s “Prelims” are headlined by a Welterweight clash between Stephen Thompson and Joaquin Buckley. Also on the undercard is Carla Esparza vs. Tecia Pennington, Cesar Almeida vs. Ihor Potieria and Court McGee vs. Tim Means (how about that one for the oldheads out there?).
For the third time this year, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira puts his title on the line in the main event of UFC, squaring off with surging challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. to close out UFC 307.
In the roughly 11 months since Pereira claimed the vacant title with a second-round knockout win over former champ Jiri Prochazka last year at Madison Square Garden.
The 37-year-old Brazilian has earned consecutive successful title defenses against ex-titleholder Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 and a second stoppage over Prochazka at UFC 303 to push his overall winning streak to four.
Pereira, who's already had a fantastic 2024 with victories over Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, will be looking to defend his title for the third time this year in Salt Lake City. Rountree Jr., on the other hand, hasn't fought since his win against Anthony Smith in December 2023, making this matchup even more intriguing. A victory for Pereira could solidify his status as a pound-for-pound star and potentially pave the way for a future in the heavyweight division.
But could this be Rountree's time? The War Horse is undefeated in two years, with five wins from five UFC fights over that period. Aged 34, there's a feeling that it's now or never for the Californian southpaw and he'll be desperate to capitalize in the Octagon on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rountree Jr. touches down in Salt Lake City on a five-fight winning streak, having earned finishes in four of those contests, each more devastating and resounding than the last.
Alex Pereira will be hoping to make it a third successful title defence in just 175 days as he puts his light heavyweight crown on the line against Khalil Rountree Jr in UFC 307's headline act on Saturday.
The Brazilian star claimed the title from Jiří Procházka back in November last year, with "Poatan" beating Procházka once more in a rematch fight in his last appearance in the Octagon back in June at UFC 303.
Up next is California's Khalil Rountree Jr, is a big puncher with a 13-5-1 record, who is on a run of five consecutive victories.
The bill also boasts Women's bantamweight title fight as it's main supporting act, with defending champ Raquel Pennington puts facing off against Julianna Peña.
Champion Raquel Pennington takes on Julianna Peña in the women’s bantamweight title bout. Peña is the No. 1 contender for the title despite losing her last fight, dropping her record to 12-5. The champion is 16-9 and coming off a victory that has her current winning streak sitting at six consecutive fights.
And in the other championship fight, light heavyweight title holder Alex Pereira faces Khalil Rountree Jr. Both fighters enter this bout coming off wins, but Rountree is a heavy underdog and the smaller fighter, standing about three inches shorter and weighing a few pounds less than the champ.
