Is it possible that there are talented athletes out there who are never noticed by Division I programs just like there are so many talented singers out there who are never discovered by recording agents. For example, I can name three talented singers who I saw recently on NBC's The Voice who sang songs that were much better than the original artists. Dia Frampton's rendition of Kanye West's song "Heartless" was according to Cee Lo Green the best rendition of any song he has ever heard (see link). On YouTube, one fan wrote, "Love her cover.....wish Kanye's would disappear. It's pathetic compared to this." My personal favorite of all The Voice singers is Vicci Martinez, whose version of Rolling in the Deep is much better than Adele's original song. And the other singer on The Voice who sang a song so much better than the original artist is Xenia Martinez. Her version of Price Tag was awesome.

So is it possible that there are talented athletes who are never noticed by Division I programs just like there are singers who are never discovered by recording agents?

If you are a big Rocky fan like I am, you won't want to forget to watch the Rockyfest from July 4 at 10:30am to July 5 at 5:30am on AMC. Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV and Rocky V will all air (not in order). True patriots will particularly want to tune in to IV, with the Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) fighting for our country’s honor against the nasty Soviet brute Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren).

Athletics Subsidies at Division I Schools

The Central Michigan Chippewas have joined other Bowl Subdivision teams in choosing to host weekday home games as to gain television opportunities. In this video, a CMU student gives his thoughts on the new tactic. After hearing his arguments against hosting weekday home games, I tend to agree with him. Watch the video below and tell me if you believe MAC teams should agree to play games during the week in order to get more TV coverage.

With a trip to the NCAA Super Regionals, Kent State and Texas will play for the third time in three days this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Kent time. (1:00 p.m. in Austin).

Ryan Mace will get the start for the Flashes.

I received my copy of the Kent State Magazine today and inside is a free window decal that touts KSU as "A Top 200 University in the World." Kent State is currently ranked 196 in the world. What It Takes To Be Number One

There was a news report today that UMASS is coming to the MAC in 2012 for football only and Temple will stay in the MAC for the time being as a football only member, so that means the league will move to 14 teams in 2012.

Horrible from a logistical and geographical standpoint. What does this do for the alignment of the teams in the MAC East and West?

Larry Dawson rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown to lead the Blue to a 6-0 victory over the Gold in Kent State's Blue-Gold scrimmage on Saturday at Dix Stadium.

Good for him and good for the Golden Flashes program! Nothing like the pride you feel for him, is there? Nothing like the sport of wrestling when you have a personal stake, a vested interest in the outcome of a matchup, and nothing like a win over an undefeated opponent in the National Final to boot!

Can any of you help me? Do any of you have the ESPN program for the NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Finals recorded in a manner where you can provide a copy on DVD? I had this on my DVR, dumped it to DVD, and deleted the program before I had finalized my disc. The 'finalize' failed, and suddenly I am without options.

Sophomore southpaw Andrew Chafin was just about perfect against Toledo today.

Complete game shutout, 88 strikes on 113 pitches, 15 strikeouts, no walks, threw first-pitch strikes to 20 of the 30 batters he faced.

His fastball and slider were about as crisp as ever. Coach Stricklin said after the game he knew Toledo would be swinging early to stay away from that slider in two-strike situations.

The game only took two hours and eight minutes because Toledo starter Mike Hamann was great as well.

KSU could only muster a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Cody Koch sac fly to deep right.

How's this for a day?

5-for-5 at the plate; 4 runs scored, 5 RBI, 2 walks, 2 homers.

That's what Ben Klafczynski did in Kent State's 22-2 win over Xavier today.
